What is records disposal?
Once public records are no longer required by a Victorian government agency for current business use, the agency will need to decide whether the records should be:
- stored by the agency pending destruction or transfer
- transferred to another agency
- transferred to PROV to be preserved as state archives or
- destroyed.
Collectively all of these actions are known as records ‘disposal’.
See Disposal Standard for further information.
Service update As a result of our Digital Archive Program of work we've had reduced capacity to take on new RDA development projects. We had hoped to be able to return to our usual level of service in late 2020, however due to the challenges of coronavirus (COVID-19), and the Digital Archive Program taking longer than expected, we now anticipate we won’t be able to take on new project work until the second half of 2021.If you have any plans for developing RDAs this year, please take this time to think about your agency’s needs and requirements, and familiarise yourself with the relevant RDA development guidance on our website. We will advise agencies once the RDA development program has recommenced. |
