We have various records of coronial investigations, available for the period 1840–1985. The most frequently used are:
- statements and other evidence provided at inquests (hearings held to find the cause of a person’s death)
- records of post mortems and investigations into deaths which may not have eventually required an inquest.
What do I need to know before I start?
The key pieces of information are the name of the deceased, and an approximate year of death.
