Cemeteries are often run by a cemetery trust, and members are responsible for keeping records about the cemetery and who is buried where.
We hold records of fewer than 20 cemetery trusts - most cemetery trusts still hold their records. Today there are 400 cemetery trusts with responsibility for cemeteries across Victoria.
What do I need to know before I start?
You need to know which cemetery you are interested in. See the Links section on this page to search for cemeteries on the DHHS website, or use the PROV Visualiser to explore cemetery records.
