PROV is undertaking a major review of the Standards and Specifications it sets for Victorian Public Sector recordkeeping. We are seeking your feedback to make sure the requirements all Victorian agencies must meet are:
- easy to understand
- can be applied by all types of agencies
- support the transition to digital recordkeeping.
Feedback received on proposed changes to the Strategic Management, Capture and Control Standards and Specifications
We have really appreciated the extensive and thoughtful feedback we have received on the proposals. Many suggestions have been received about the wording of Principles and Requirements, most of which have been accepted. In some cases, suggestions from agencies have contradicted each other, so a compromise will be required.
Reducing the number of Principles and Requirements, simplifying the wording, removing repetition and focussing on outcomes has received positive feedback. One of the areas where feedback has varied relates to the level of detail and prescription people would like included. Some people would prefer high level Principles and Requirements only, whereas others would like the requirements to be detailed and specific. The proposed wording tries to take a middle ground, giving enough detail to support records managers while allowing agencies to devise the best way to achieve outcomes in their particular environment.
It was suggested that we reconsider the format of the documents to try to simplify them and align PROV high level requirements with those from other jurisdictions. We are trying to achieve both of these goals through the review process.
